Mr. O’s Weekly News

January 2, 2022

Merry Christmas, Blessed Epiphany, and Happy New Year!

I hope you had a blessed Christmas and your children enjoyed their time away from school.

Yesterday was the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, so let us all pray and consecrate our school to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for another twelve months.  Mother Mary, pray for us!

COVID Corner:

  • Current Case Rates
    • Case Rate (CR) = number of COVID-19 cases, per 100,000 people, during the last two weeks
      • Local CR: 798 (v. 608 on 12/16)
      • Local = 45377 (x .54) + 45414 (.46)
      • County CR: 824 (v. 632 on 12/16)
      • State CR: 1,365 (v. 783 on 12/16)
  • Along with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), St. Christopher School is strongly recommending vaccinations and masking for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Vaccinations and masking remain optional.  Masking, however, will continue to be required when a close contact is serving an in-school quarantine, per the below ODH guidelines.
  • New ODH Isolation & Quarantine Guidelines
    • Summary of New Guidelines
      • Isolation for Positive Cases: regardless of vaccination status or symptoms, anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 must isolate for at least 5 days. If symptoms are improving and fever is absent, one may attend school on the sixth day while wearing a mask for days 6-10.
      • Quarantine for Close Contacts
        • If vaccines are current and no symptoms, may attend school while wearing a mask for 10 days.  Must test negative after 5 days.
          • Vaccines are current if:
            • you received a booster does of any COVID-19 vaccine series.
            • you completed the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series less than 6 months ago.
            • you completed the Johnson & Johnson vaccine less than 2 months ago.
        • If you had COVID-19 in the last 90 days, may attend school and wear a mask for 10 days.
        • If unvaccinated or vaccines are not current, stay home for 5 days and test negative on day 5.  If negative test and no symptoms, may return to school while wearing a mask for days 6-10.
  • If your student has tested positive, has been in close contact with a positive case, or has symptoms, please email me at your earliest convenience.
  • If you prefer your student wears a mask in school, please make sure he/she arrives with two masks each day; one on the face and one as a backup.

Out of Uniform Day on Friday January 7.

The End of the Second Quarter is Thursday January 13.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is January 17 and the school will be closed.

Thank you, again, for an amazing first semester.  I am very much looking forward to 2022 and another great semester with you and your family.

St. Christopher, pray for us!
