Mr. O’s Weekly News

CORRECTION: we are closed for Christmas Break starting on Monday 12/19.

December 12, 2022

Hello & Happy Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Day!

Mrs. Hartley’s classes enjoyed a Juan Diego Relay for Roses…

School will be closed December19th through Monday January 2nd.  We will return to school on Tuesday January 3rd.

This Friday is OOU (Out of Uniform) Day:

  • Students may be out of uniform, if they wear Advent or Christmas colors.
  • Leggings, yoga, or spandex pants may not be worn as pants alone. A dress, skirt, skort, or shorts must be worn over them.
  • No pants with holes, rips, tears or fraying.
  • Homeroom teacher and grade level emails supersedes this email with respect to dress code plans for this Friday.

The School’s Christmas Program is tonight at 6:30pm in the church! Grades K-4 will perform a musical followed by a school band performance (grades 5-8). All are welcome!

The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) Elementary School Tuition Assistance Scholarship Program (K-8) is accepting applications between now and February 3, 2023.  As in the past, families may apply through FACTS Grant and Aid Management.  Families should upload their 2021 tax return when applying; this eliminates the need to wait for 2022 to be filed.  Please visit www.CatholicBestChoice.org for more details and instructions on how to apply.

Falcon Flight News

  • We have enjoyed our tutoring time with your children after school so far! We do want to clear up some possible confusion.
  • We are so much more than just a study hall or homework help (of course we are able to help in those areas as well).
  • When we make group lists, we group students based on grade levels, but also on “intervention” vs “homework help.”
  • Our teachers welcome input when working with students in Falcon Flight.  No idea is too big or too small — help with studying for a test, organization skills, math facts, reading skills, spelling skills, upcoming projects, editing/writing, IOWA prep, etc.
  • If you would like your child to receive more intervention in a certain skill or subject area, please email Christa Wade (cwade@scpschool.org) with the specifics and we will add that to the list.
  • We are here to help!

Children’s Liturgy – Sunday 9:00am Masses: every time I attend our 9:00am Sunday Mass, I am filled with joy when I see so many children gathering for their own liturgy. With an adult facilitator, children hear and reflect on the day’s readings on a kid friendly level. If you have children who are 4 years old through 4th grade, please consider bringing them to our 9:00am Mass.  All are welcome; you do not need to be Catholic.

School Counselor: earlier in the year, I mentioned we were using the University of Dayton’s ECHO Program for our counseling services this year.  Our counselor, Nicole Willey, is in our building Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.  You can find an introductory letter from Nicole HERE. If you have questions for Nicole or would like her to meet with your child, you can reach out to her using our office phone number (937-898-5104) or email (nwilley@scpschool.org).

Kentucky Book Drive: thank you to everyone who donated to our recent book drive to help restock schools and libraries in KY.  Christ Lutheran Church organized the outreach and sent us a thank you letter and a few pictures.

*** REMINDERS ***Open House will be Sunday, January 29th to kick off Catholic Schools Week.  Please join us for 11:00 Mass followed by Open House from 12:00-1:00pm. All are welcome!

  • The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest will be held in the gym after Open House from 1:30-3:00pm.

Recess will continue to be held outside, as long as the temperature is above 32 and it is not raining. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for colder temps.
Grades K-5 Winter Uniform Policy (November 1 to March 1)

  • No shorts
  • Leggings or tights must be worn under jumpers, skorts, and skirts.

Blessed Advent!
