Hello Falcon Family!
You should probably expect to hear from me every day for the next week or so. Much is happening that we want to share, but I am not a fan of long emails. Having said that, here comes a long email. 🙂
New Teachers! YAY!!! In the spring, I mentioned the departure of several teachers due to various retirement, family, and career decisions. I am super excited to introduce our newest Falcon Faculty!
- Emma Casey (Second Grade) “I am originally from Lexington, Kentucky and moved to the Dayton area this summer. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky and I am currently working towards my Master’s Degree in Learning and Behavior Disorders. I previously taught at a Catholic school in Lexington and am so excited to start this year at St. Christopher’s!”
- Becky Guth (Junior High) “I am so happy to be a new member of the St. Christopher staff. I have both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from UD, and 30 years of classroom experience. In my spare time I enjoy biking on nearby bike trails, going for hikes, working in my yard, crocheting, knitting and READING!! Teaching is my joy, and I’m so looking forward to working with the students at St. Chris.”
- Beth Richey (Second Grade & Title I) “Hi! I am very excited to be a part of the St. Christopher’s family. I grew up in Englewood and attended Northmont schools. I received my undergraduate degree (special education, early childhood education) and Master’s degree (literacy) from the University of Dayton. For the last 17 years, I worked as an intervention specialist, preschool teacher, and kindergarten teacher with Northmont schools. I have been married to my husband David for seven years and we have a daughter named Evelyn. Evelyn is 4 years old and she is excited to become a pre-k Falcon in the fall. We have one dog named Cooper. We enjoy spending time camping, being outdoors and swimming on hot days. We really enjoy eating pizza for dinner! I look forward to working with the staff, students and families at St. Chris! Go Falcons!”
New Aides: with Mrs. Smith’s retirement, we will be using a new model for aides this year. We will aggregate certain core subjects, when aides are most needed, and then move our aides to other areas during non-core subject times.
- Aimee May (Mrs. Dunkle’s Kindergarten)
- Jacqui Schindler (Grades 3-5)
- Erin Wolking (Mrs. Dahlinghaus’ Kindergarten)
New Contractors: this year, we will fill a few positions with some exceptionally trained teachers from some well-known local organizations.
- Art: Rachel Andrews from K12 Art Gallery
- Band: Angelo Knight from Chaminade Julienne’s Performing Arts Department
- Counseling: We have not yet received our assigned counselor, but we are contracting with the University of Dayton’s Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity (ECHO) Program.
Lunch/Recess Volunteers are always needed! These volunteers provide a much needed break for our teachers. Plus, we can never have enough eyes out on the playground. If you are interested in helping out, even for one hour/week, please contact Mrs. Bradley in our office.
The Robotics Club is looking for new parent leadership. Mr. & Mrs. Schneider have done an absolutely amazing job running this team for many years and it is time for them to take a break. Our preference is that Robotics has a leadership team and not one single parent. It’s a wonderful extracurricular offering with a successful history and we very much want it to continue in the same fashion…without anyone burning out.
- The Schneiders are willing to help mentor and transition the new head coaches throughout this upcoming season.
- The Robotics Club helps our students develop problem solving skills, advanced creativity, teamwork skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with peers and adults.
- This year, three CJ scholarship winners and two graduating students with the highest GPA were members of the Robotics Team.
- Team Accolades
- Invited to the State championships for seven consecutive years
- Finished in the top 5 in the state the last two years (over 600 teams in Ohio)
- Invited to several international competitions
- Won awards at every competition
- Contributed to the community through outreach and service activities
Until tomorrow!
St. Christopher, pray for us!
Mother Mary, pray for us!
