Mr. O’s Weekly News

August 3, 2021

Hello Falcon Parents!

Public Health of Dayton & Montgomery County published their final guidance today and I had a chance to speak with our local contact to discuss questions and clarifications. Thank you for your patience while we waited for this local guidance. While PHDMC is supporting everything previously published by the CDC and ODH, the additional PHDMC insight and consultation was valuable.

St. Christopher School 2021-2022 Opening Plan:

  • This is our school opening plan and all components are subject to change. It may change after one week or it may last all year. We will monitor and modify as necessary. Our hope and plan in June was to have a fall opening with zero Covid restrictions. Although we feel zero restrictions are not prudent, we want to start with fewer restrictions than last year.
  • Masks are strongly recommended for students and teachers, but are optional, not required.
  • Masks are required while riding a school bus. The CDC issued an order requiring the use of masks on all public transportation including on buses operated by public and private school systems.
  • We will not offer a livestreaming option unless a student is required to isolate or quarantine due to Covid.
  • Students will be required to isolate (if testing positive) and quarantine (if considered a close contact of a positive case) per our most recent guidelines. More details can be found here, but here is a summary of those guidelines:
    • Isolation Guidelines (when testing positive):
      • May return to school after 10 days from symptom onset
    • Quarantine Guidelines (when considered a close contact of a positive case):
      • May return to school:
        • After day 10 without testing
        • After day 7 after receiving a negative test result (test must occur on day 5 or later)
  • Students and desks will be physically distanced 3-6′ whenever possible, but most classrooms will be 3′.
  • Temperatures will be taken as students enter the building.
  • Students will:
    • participate in regular hand washing and sanitizing
    • travel from classroom to classroom
    • eat in the cafeteria
    • attend Mass, as a school, on Wednesday mornings and participate in Prayer Families
  • We are collecting updated quotes on an HVAC addition that will improve air quality in the school building. We researched this last year, but did not have the money for implementation. Due to a new source of federal funding (EANS), we now have the money.
  • School doors will open at 7:30AM and car riders should not leave their cars until 7:30AM.
  • We will minimize visitors in the building.

As you can imagine, there are many things to consider and many components to our plan. These are just the highlights. If I failed to address a component or you have questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email or phone (937-898-5104 x128).

On behalf of the entire St. Christopher faculty and staff, we sincerely thank you for choosing St. Christopher and being a part of our family. We are looking forward to a great year!

God Bless & Go Falcons!
